PROJECT 76

City: Kyiv

Project manager: Serhiy Kuznetsov

Technology Readiness Level: 6

SOCRAT is a software and hardware device for remote rapid detection of unexploded ordnance and mines using UAVs equipped with an electromagnetic surface sensing system.

The technology is based on the dynamic multiparametric method of electromagnetic scanning (PEMS) - sensing together with the analysis of radiation from local anomalies of the search objects, which allows to remotely investigate the physical characteristics of the areas of explosive objects with the determination of their spatial location.

The results of the work have shown that in places where explosive objects are located, the equipment detects anomalies of increased values of electromagnetic parameters. Metal and non-metallic explosive objects differ in the parameters of the attenuation rates of vertical gradients.

Geoelectric parameters of the environment (anisotropy coefficients of electromagnetic field voltages, vertical gradients of their changes in depth) make it possible to determine the location of explosive objects with coordinates referenced to the map.

  1. How does this technology work on wooden or plastic cased mines or boby trap situations i.e,. an automobile mined to explode on movement? Is the sensitivity parameters of mine detection adjustable or sufficiently high level sensitivity to discriminate potential danger from surroundings? Has it been tested in actual real life situations?

  2. Is the aim to export the technology to countries in need and make this the market leader on a cost effective basis?
